INAUGURAL CAREER FAIR GIVES GEORGIA YMSL BOYS PATH FOR THEIR FUTURE

Almost 300 boys gathered at Country Club of the South to hear from five different local professionals at the Young Men's Service League's Inaugural Career Fair. YMSL's Centennial Chapter hosted the event as an opportunity to give their members, and members of the Alpharetta and Milton Chapters, a glimpse into the unlimited career opportunities that lie ahead of them as they navigate through high school and beyond.

    Wildcat Chapter Updates Hope's Door

The Wildcat Chapter spent a couple weekends updating Hope's Door women/childrens shelter. Hope’s Door is an organization in Collin County that offers intervention and prevention services to individuals and families affected by domestic violence. The weather changed the plans a bit and some of the outside work was pushed back but the inside of the home was transformed. A railing was added to the front porch, painting was done throughout the house, new furniture was built and set up, new rugs, curtains etc. were added. The therapy room was updated and new blinds were hung.

McKinney Chapter refreshes Bible Baptist Church

The first day of our two-weekend Ultimate Gift project got off to a great start, even with a little rain in the forecast! With the help of some wonderful YMSL dads, Habitat for Humanity volunteers and our own incredible YMSL members, we succeeded in: • building and staining two 10-foot picnic tables • installing gravel to make a driveway• completing a playground for area children • working on landscaping! On our second weekend, thanks to cloudy (but not rainy!) skies, our YMSL chapter was able fulfill our responsibilities for the 2015-2015 Ultimate Gift.

    Dal-Rich Chapter Assists Vogal Alcove

For their Ultimate Gift Dal-Rich Chapter assisted Vogel Alcove, an organization that helps homeless families- especially children.  We collected gently used clothes plus new underwear and socks.  We set up the store on 10/31/15 and 11/1/15.  On 11/7/15, approximately 130 families (over 200 family members) were able to pick out Fall/Winter clothes. The moms/sons helped the families shop, made crafts with the children as well as played and read to them.  It was an experience that many of us will never forget.

Vienna-Oakton Chapter transforms Northern Virginia Family Service Head Start center

In the months leading up to YMSLVO’s November 7-8 project, the Ultimate Gift Committee worked closely with Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS), to identify resource requirements and develop a plan to transform the classrooms which have not been painted since 2005. YMSLVO’s 31 mothers and their high school freshman sons embraced the Ultimate Gift project by fulfilling the project’s wish list for supplies and working over 250 hours onsite in Manassas to prepare and paint the classrooms.
