Georgia - Centennial Chapter - A great day serving the Nicholas House

The Georgia Centennial Chapter enjoyed a beautiful day outside helping The Nicholas House with much needed painting and yard cleanup/maintenance. We were also able to improve the Garden of Appreciation that we build last year by installing a flagstone/pebble path that the boys designed and installed 100% by themselves. Due to a large tree falling on their property several months ago, they lost several of their picnic tables. We were able to deliver and install 3 new picnic tables for the families to enjoy. The Nicholas House is a nonprofit agency that operates a transitional housing shelter as well as scattered apartment sites for homeless families. They assist homeless families in making the transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency in a structured but home-like environment. They are the only homeless shelter in Atlanta that ensures families can stay intact (i.e. most shelters separate men/women, etc.). The Nicholas House Volunteer Coordinator was very impressed in how well our event was planned and how hard our members worked. She said that there were VERY few projects where she could just stand back and watch and didn't have to figure everything out, direct the work, etc.
